Lake St. Clair Ice Fishing Report

Well we’ve finally got some cold weather and we are making some ice, but most of it sucks.  There are some canals frozen in the northern end of the lake around The Raft bar, and even some ice out in the bay.  It’s frozen there because the water is fairly shallow and I’ve received no reports of any good fishing. Canals are starting to harden in the New Baltimore area, but take extreme caution.  There should be perch in these canals if you can find canals that are deep enough and allow you enough good ice to get towards the mouth. I know that certain parts of the lake are pretty dirty right now, so trying to find clean water would be best.  Good luck out there and be safe.

Ice Fishing Report – Lake St. Clair

Well fishermen, there is not any trust worthy ice on the lake yet. There is some ice in the canals, but it’s far from safe at this point. We still need several consistent days and nights of really cold weather. We continue to receive reports of perch being taken from the shore, but there are a lot of small ones. Try canals, marinas and places like Ford’s Cove. The baitfish are stacked up in these areas. Good luck and be safe.

Lots of Perch Still Being Caught Along The Mile Roads

We continue to get reports of fishermen hammering the perch along the mile roads where they can legally reach the water. Lots of small perch and this may require some culling, but still fun to catch. Guys are getting some bigger perch by switching to larger baits like crappie baits. I think it’s more fun than just bobber watching anyway. I imagine these fish will continue to hug the shore until the ice comes in. Be careful out there and good luck.
