Been a while since our last report, so here you go with the most up to date Lake St. Clair fishing report on the web.

Smallmouth Bass Report

Lots of reports of some smallies being caught off the mile roads.  The fish are in deeper water – 12 to 14 feet.  Go for the usual tubes and cranks in natural colors.  Also getting reports of some nice bass being caught off of Metro Beach in 10-12 feet of water.  Go for tubes and try some Erie Darters and DS Darters on a drop-shot rig.  Set yourself up for a good drift once you find the weed beds.  Stick to the edges.

Perch Report

Steady reports of perch being caught off of the St. Clair Light area.  Set-up around 15 feet of water with perch rigs and emerald shiners.  You’ll have to weed through some small ones, but some jumbos are out there.

Musky Report

Reports from the Salt River area of Anchor Bay from casters and trollers.  Big blades and big tubes for the caster and body baits in perch and jailbird colors have been catching fish.  Get near the weed beds in 12 feet of water.  Grassy island has given up some fish as well.  Towards the south end of the lake we’ve been getting reports from the Dumping Grounds.  Try different depths as the fish are fluctuating based on cloud cover and temperature.

Walleye Report

Getting some reports of walleye being taken out by the Firecracker on planer boards.  Guys are fishing natural colored bombers and rapalas. haven’t heard a depth, but you’ll probably see a few guys out there.

Smallmouth Bass Report

The smallies are fairly heavy off the mile roads straight on up to Metro.  Follows those weed lines and throw tubes and cranks.  Lipless and lipped cranbaits doing well.  Go for 8-12 feet of water. Go for natural colors like perch and shad.  Make sure you have a second rod ready as follows from other fish are going to happen.

Walleye Report

Still getting reports of success jigging in the North end of the Detroit river.  Go Fin-S on a chartreuse jig head.  Fish being caught primarily in the morning on both the US and Canadian sides.  Also getting some reports of walleye being caught in the lake off the mile roads.  Trollers are having some success pulling crankbaits in 10-12 feet of water.  Expect a mixed bag with smallmouth in the area also.

Perch Report

I’ve heard a few reports of Perch being caught around the 400 Club tower on minnows.  They do seems to be scattered however, so you may need to move around a bit.  The St. Clair Light area usually starts to get some fish around now, but we haven’t heard any reports from there yet.

Well it’s that time of year again when the fishflies (mayflies) hatch and fish get full bellies. Fish with full bellies are harder to catch.  Still getting some reports of walleye being caught in the dumping grounds area on crawler harnesses.  Smallmouth are still plentiful but are starting to move to their post-spawn deeper water haunts.  Unfortunately, there haven’t been a lot of reports lately to relay as many fishermen are not catching many fish.  Musky have been fairly active around Grassy Island and the Salt River area both casting and trolling.  Go with the perch colors for the toothy critters.  Hopefully the flies will end soon.  Good luck.

Reports are starting to come in about walleye being caught from the spillway to Metro. Fishermen are pulling crawler harnesses with bright bladed harnesses. Productive colors have been green/yellow and green/orange. Look for 5-7 feet of water.

Smallmouth still pretty thick in Anchor Bay. Areas are a bit spotty, but the Selfridge area is still a good bed. Go with the usual lipless crankbaits and tubes. White is always good on the tubes. Look for emerging weedbeds. Fish are starting congregate at these areas.

The walleye have been on in the Detroit River.  Most reports are coming from the Canadian side of the river.  Have received several reports form the Belle Isle and Cow Pasture areas.  Most reports are for lighter colored jigs: white, yellow, and fluorescent colors. Fish are coming on jigs tipped with Fin-s, Berkley gulp minnows, and Wyandotte worms.  Most coming from the minnow baits however.  Most fish found around the 30′ mark.  Cold front coming in for the weekend may slow things down a bit.  Male and females being caught with many of the females spawned out.
