Lake St. Clair Catch & Release Bass Season

The catch & release bass season opens on Lake St. Clair on April 30th, 2011. There will undoubtedly be a lot of bass fishermen out to take advantage of the easy pickin’s of smallmouth during this time of the year. One heads-up for those looking to launch at Metro Beach on Saturday the 30th; there will be a March of Dimes walk at Metro Beach, so you may see long lines to enter the park. Metro Beach will probably have all of the booths open to handle the traffic, but I have personally experienced a wait of 20 minutes or longer to get in. Good luck to all the anglers.

Lake St. Clair Smallmouth Bass Fishing Report

The lake is still dirty in most popular smallmouth fishing areas.  Fish are still being caught however.  Most success has come on lipless crankbaits.  Makes sense with the dirty water, the fish need a chance to find a bait.  Still seeing some fish caught on tubes too.  Personally, I’ve caught 20 fish on a lipless for every one on a tube.  Selfridge has been productive and still holds a lot of fishermen as well.  We’ve fished the mile roads area and have found the best spots off of Memorial Park (look for the tent and blue seawall) and off 9 mile by Ford’s Cove.  Good luck.

Lake St. Clair Bass Fishing Report

The Lake St. Clair catch and release season opened for bass last weekend.  The weather was rainy all weekend, but that didn’t slow the action down.  Reports of smallmouth being caught from 9 mile to 11 mile road by the hundreds were common.  We have also received reports of some fish being caught at Selfridge.  Largemouth were also plentiful in the canals and off breakwalls.  Tubes, lipless crankbaits, and jerkbaits in all kinds of colors did the job.  We’ve had reports of fish coming from 4 feet to 8 feet of water.  Needless to say the fish are everywhere in large numbers and will hit just about anything you throw at them.

Good luck, as if you need it this time of year.
