Smallmouth Report

The smallmouth have been gobbling up fishflies over the last few weeks but are still hitting for fishermen.  Getting reports of smallmouth from 9 mile road all the way up to Selfridge.  The fish are typically from 10 feet of water and less.  The smallies are being caught on tubes and other plastics; jigged and drop-shot.  There are fish to be found deeper along the North and Middle Channels for those looking to fish deeper.  As the fishfly hatch ends, the bass will start to transition to their summer patterns.  Rest assured we’ll be bring you the reports as the bass locate cooler waters.  Good luck.

Lake St. Clair Smallmouth Bass Fishing Report

The lake is still dirty in most popular smallmouth fishing areas.  Fish are still being caught however.  Most success has come on lipless crankbaits.  Makes sense with the dirty water, the fish need a chance to find a bait.  Still seeing some fish caught on tubes too.  Personally, I’ve caught 20 fish on a lipless for every one on a tube.  Selfridge has been productive and still holds a lot of fishermen as well.  We’ve fished the mile roads area and have found the best spots off of Memorial Park (look for the tent and blue seawall) and off 9 mile by Ford’s Cove.  Good luck.

Lake St. Clair Smallmouth Bass Fishing Report

On Friday the smallmouth were stacked up in one particular area off of Selfridge.  There were large numbers of fish being caught not only by our boat, but other boats around us.  The smallmouth were relatively shallow in 3-4 feet of water.  Most of our fish came on lipless crankbaits in any perch type colors.  The fish hit on a fast stop and go retrieve.  Other boats were also using tubes with success.  Tubes also caught more fish on a fast retrieve.  It seemed like the larger fish came on the lipless cranks however.

If you have a GPS here’s the waypoint: N 42° 37.032′ W 82° 49.057′

Good Luck
